Bell From Williamsville Grade School
Bell would have been located in bell tower seen in this picture on the roof. Bell would have been rung to announce that school would be starting. It would have been rung manually by pulling a rope.
The Williamsville Grade School was used from 1867-1952.
Bob Black purchased the school, tore it down and built a home. The Black family still lives on this
site today just north of Main Street on Elkhart.
Bell's Journey Home
Bob Black said that he sold the bell to Jane Groves for $45.00.
Jane Groves gave the bell to George E. and Marlene Groves. They took the bell to Jacksonville, FL. George died in 2001, and their daughter, Suzanne, donated the bell back to the museum. Wayne and Juanita Henderson drove to Florida and brought the bell back. Bell was displayed in front of Boxcars before being placed in the Outdoor Education Area at WPLM. |
